Obidos

A small village completely enclosed by lofty medieval walls only a short drive from the apartment in Sao Martinho do Porto. The streets are cobbled and traffic is excluded apart from a few residents with permits. There three car parks just outside the town near the Roman viaduct that runs inland from the town.

A view along a street in Obidos Inside the walls most of the houses are whitewashed with windows and door highlighted in blue and yellow, very typical of this part of Portugal. There also some ancient buildings to be seen.

There are several access points to the tops of the walls. It is possible to walk round all of the town from the top of the walls.From the walls it is possible to enjoy views over the town and the local countryside. A view along the wall at Obidos
A view of the Castle at Obidos from the North side There is an open air theatre at the northern end of the town and the castle is now a pousada (hotel).
